With the advantages of today's technology, using drones to create maps has become more affordable than ever before. Utilities and construction companies are two industries reaping the benefits of creating 3D maps using the art and science of UAVs, Photogramattry and LiDAR sensors to create the most accurate GIS (Geographic Information System) of an area. Rural Utilities companies are using drones to upgrade from an old and obsolete mapping systems to a new and advanced reliable system.
California ADI provides Topographic survey with LIDAR using UAV; in order to gather all necessary data to process terrain profile over power lines. We provide DSM, DEM and DTM (Digital Surface, Elevation and Terrain Models.
Our team of experts will provide you with report of the survey and description of the process, along with survey files in (.XLS or .XLSX) formats.
Photogrammetry Vs. LiDAR
While both methods lead pretty much to the same results, they are both different in method and accuracy of their outputs. Both methods create 3D models. Photogrammetry creates a 3D model from 2D images but does not penetrate beyond an object, while LiDAR has the ability to penetrate beyond trees, buildings and beneath the surface. LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology is based on laser beams. It shoots laser and measures the time it takes for the light to return. Photogrammetry is based on images that are transformed from 2D into 3D models. The limitation of photogrammetry is that it can only generate points based on what the camera sensor can detect illuminated by ambient light.
